The Silver City Food Co-op has formed partnerships with various organizations in Grant County that promote the health and well being of the people, animals and the physical environment of our community.
The Volunteer Center and the co-op are currently working together on three projects: Alimento Para El Nino, providing supplemental food for elementary school children and their families, the Community Gift Card Program, funded by a co-op member, providing women head of households with a monthly gift card to shop at the co-op, and the Grant County Community Food Pantry.
The Mission, which runs a local soup kitchen, receives produce and other food from the co-op.
The Gila Resources Information Project (GRIP) is the host of the Viva Verde Expo, a weeklong educational conference on “Green Living in Southern New Mexico”; the co-op is supporting and participating in this event
Lone Mountain Natives, Silver City Farmers Market, Silver City Recycling Task Force and the Silver City Food Co-op come together to organize the Earth Day Celebration in Penny Park each April, with GRIP as the sponsor and promoter.
Health Reach and the co-op have collaborated on outreach projects to educate health care providers on the topics of diabetes and obesity.
The co-op is a member of the Silver City/Grant County Chamber of Commerce.
The Silver City Food Co-op participates in the Aldo Leopold High School and Meadowhawk Middle School internship programs that bring students to the co-op to work and learn.
The co-op employs clients of Life Quest, a non-profit, community agency that provides services and supports to people with developmental disabilities.
Our Co-op Kids program supports Big Brothers Big Sisters, El Refugio Rosie’s Children’s program, as well as Alimento Para El Nino.
The co-op’s 5 cent bag refund program raises money for various organizations including S.N.A.P. (Spaying and Neutering Animal Program) by giving customers a 5 cent refund token for using their own shopping bags.
